Before Applying for an Exam or Vacancy, Please Read this Important Information:

  1. Read the vacancy or exam announcement thoroughly and compare your qualifications carefully against the MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS stated. Apply for those vacancies and examinations for which you are clearly qualified.

  2. Submit a Civil Service application: Click on the “APPLY” button next to the title of the exam or vacancy for which you are applying. All qualifying information must be on the application. A resume will not be accepted as substitution for a completed application. All experience required to meet the qualifications must be paid, full-time experience (unless otherwise noted).

  3. Submit your $15 application review fee (for examinations only as stated on exam announcements). We accept credit cards online or money orders if mailed. If paying by money order, make payable to Madison County Treasurer. If paying by credit card, a $1.00 service fee will be added to the $15 review fee.

  4. There is no fee if applying for vacancies not associated with an exam.

After You Apply: Approximately one week before the exam date, approved candidates will receive an Admission Notice which will specify the exam date, time and location.

Disapproved candidates will receive a letter shortly after the last filing date providing the reason for disapproval, an appeal opportunity and the deadline by which to appeal. If you do not receive an admission notice within 3 days of the examination, contact our office at 315-366-2341.
